Assault Weapons Ban: A step In the right direction
The recent ban on assault weapons and large magazines has stirred up some serious discussions. Is it necessary for a normal American citizen to have access to weapons the military uses to defend this country? We don’t think so. A simple handgun with a round or two is enough to protect your family, yourself and your home in emergencies.

College takes STEPS to diversify student population
Castleton State College is now offering a program to help young adults with intellectual disabilities and autism disorders integrate into the college atmosphere. The CSC STEPS program Associate Director Lauren Merritt said the group formed a contract with Community Access Program to find students who have an interest in pursuing secondary education and are a good match for CSC.

Spiro balances life as professor and dean
New Associate Academic Dean Jonathan Spiro sits in his office. Not many people know what it’s truly like to live a double life, but Associate Academic Dean Jonathan Spiro does. Spiro is Castleton State College’s new associate academic dean – but he’s also still a history professor. President Dave Wolk had the idea that every two years, the academic dean’s office would rotate a faculty member who would be both a dean and a professor.

Physical plant building stirs old memories
Built to resemble and old rustic barn, the new physical plant is very close to completion. Perched on the hill at the far side of the South Street parking lot is the new physical plant building that is expected to be completed in late November. Workers are putting the final touches on the $2 million building that will resemble a rustic Vermont barn.

I am a senior in college and I have always had a passion for writing. I went into college as a declared English major, took a journalism class and fell in love. It combines my entire personality. I'm an avid snowboarder and have been for the last 6 years; hence why I chose to go to school in Vermont (20 minutes from Killington!). I'm the oldest in my family, the only girl and come from a single-parent house-hold. My mother made sure we understood how important education was, especially being a woman. Fortunate for her I love learning and I love school. I've been on the Dean's list every semester of my college career. I am currently the editor of my college newspaper and a part of Phi Eta Sigma (Freshman Honor Society) as well as the women and gender studies honor society which I chose for a minor. I plan to go on to get my masters when I graduate in December and eventually my doctorate.
